WORKSHOPS

1. COLLEGE AND THE ART OF HOSPITALITY

METAL ROOM

Let’s be honest… America is losing the art of hospitality. We live in a me-me-me culture, which is a recipe for disaster when you are trying to build relationships that are deep and meaningful. In this workshop we will explore what God has to say on the topic of hospitality and how to live this as college students. This will include an explorative look at the examples of hospitality we see in the Bible, personal anecdotes from people that have succeeded and failed at hospitality, and strategies to foster an environment that invites all who enter to rest and be encouraged.

2. HOW DID THE BIBLE COME TOGETHER … AND CAN WE TRUST IT?

WATER ROOM

Is the Bible the Word of God? Can it be trusted as an authoritative deposit of divine truth? Furthermore, what books should be in the Bible? Are there any books currently in the Bible that were initially debated by the early church? Are there any “lost” books of the Bible that deserve our attention? This seminar will present an introduction to the topics of “inscripturation” and “canon” and will equip students to learn how to evaluate what comprises the content of Scripture.

3. RICHES AND ROYALTY: LIVING AS AN HEIR OF THE ETERNAL KING

EARTH ROOM

Come learn from a real(ish) Scottish Lord and his awesome wife what it means to be royalty! We’ll explore how our identity as sons and daughters of God into His kingdom frees us from the shackles of performance which formerly bound us. Join us as we discover how the grace of God, which liberates us, also transforms the Bible from a list of commands to follow into a life-giving list of proclamations about our identity as adopted children of the King.

4. ENGAGING LGBTQ+

MAIN BALLROOM – Workshop B Only

How to approach the ‘hot’ topic of sexuality and gender from a biblical, cultural, pastoral and missional perspective, so that we can engage and love the LGTBQ+ community well, while (still) embracing God’s beautiful Gospel picture of sexuality between man and woman.

5. MISSIONS IN THE 21ST CENTURY: OUR ROLE IN GOD’S PURSUIT OF EVERY TONGUE, TRIBE, AND NATION

WOOD ROOM

When we think about missions, often we think about trailblazers like William Carey, Hudson Taylor or Adoniram Judson. We have a tendency to raise these people to hero status and see them at an unattainable level of holiness. The reality is that God is doing amazing things around the world through ordinary people like you and me. In fact, the hope of the nations rests on the backs of the faithful, unschooled, ordinary men and women who history has forgotten. In this workshop we want to call all the “not-William-Careys” to obediently follow him where he calls and to “expect great things from God; attempt great things for God.”

6. CLINGING TO JESUS IN THE MIDST OF ANXIETY, DEPRESSION, AND LONELINESS

FIRE ROOM

What a year we’ve had! Anxiety swooped in as we all tried to navigate all the changes, together with new fears. Then there was the isolation of not being able to have community like before. For some of us, this brought a new season of anxiety and depression. For others, these have been long-standing struggles. Let’s discuss how we can seek God’s guidance in these areas and pursue  victory and peace.
